Small Change Oyster Bar

Oysters! Wines! Good times! Set to open 2023, Small Change Oyster Bar is a seafood and natural wine centered restaurant in the Temescal neighborhood of Oakland. “Small Change” is a reference to the name of the owner’s grandfather’s fishing boat, which was a play on the family’s last name “Nichols”. A story that personal couldn’t help but conjure up fun and witty imagery to be used through out different areas of the brand’s identity. For example, swapping the pearl in an oyster for a shiny 5 cent piece to encapsulate the brand story in a single mark. Bringing in inspiration from mid-century American diner ephemera and interiors were key to rounding out the feel for the rest of the brand. Inspired by a classic way of dining, we set to create brand touch points that will greet diners from the plates to the matchbooks to the wax paper under your food.
